More Photos From This Past Week

Additional photos taken this past week at Zelda.

The dumpster full to the top of the old decking material.

The stump in the foreground is the only reminder of the tree on the side of Zelda

The Butterfly Emerges

Wow.  A lot has happen since we were at Zelda the last two (2) weeks.  All the wood flooring is installed down stairs, the old deck has been removed, the dumpster is no longer on site and all the trim work upstairs and downstairs is complete.  The pictures below show all the work performed.   Thanks to Ray Jr and family for sending the pictures and performing the work.

Upstairs hall bathroom.  New beadboard, baseboard, chair rail and window trim.

New outside window in master bedroom.  The old window was leaking and caused damage to the keeping room ceiling.

The deck is gone and brick walk is found (left).    The deck and now the dumpste are gone (right).
Ray Jr said that he had never seen the back of the house without the dumpster.  It has been there since July 2007.

The door on the left leads from the kitchen to the walkin pantry.  The double doors on the right lead from the kitchen to the laundry/mudroom.

The keeping room.  New floor and trim.

More Progress Being Made

I talked with our trim carpenter on Friday and he was now putting the wood flooring down in the keeping room.  The keeping room is the last room downstairs to have the flooring installed.  Once that was installed, there was a few more trim items that he needed to install.

Brent will then need to arrange to have the heart of pine upstairs floors refinished.  Below are some more pictures taken the last week we were at Zelda before moving to Maryland.  There are steps showing the progression of the leveling and wood floor installation of one (1) bed room upstairs and outside view of before and after front door installation.

As a note, during our first week in Maryland we have found a townhouse to rent just outside of Annapolis.

Putting in floor joists above the floor to make a level floor.

After the joists were installed, 3/4" tongue and groove panels were installed as the subfloor.

Then Ray Jr begins the 3/4" t &g wood flooring installation using a manual nailer.

Both pictures show the finished floor in the upstairs bedroom.

Work Continues on Zelda

Even though we are in Maryland, the work on Zelda continues in our absense.  Ray Jr. has informed us that the trim carpenter has finished the trimout downstairs and work is progressing nicely on the installation of the wood flooring downstairs.  Upstairs the Workman are finishing the trimwork of the windows and repair/installation of the window in the master bedroom.

Below are some pictures of the work and progress made last week before we left for Maryland.

The island sitting in the kitchen.

The mudroom/laundry room window trimed out.

The keeping room fireplace mantel installed.  Also we installed slate for the floor hearth.

Zelda is Crowned

This has been a very busy week at Zelda with three (3) different contractors working at once.  As of Thursday, Zelda has been crowned in every room.  We have the new trim carpenter working downstairs, the Workmans upstairs and our electrican shows up every now and then.

The downstairs trim carpenter has trimmed out six (6) windows, two (2) doors, two (2) large openings in the foyer and began installing the front door.

The Workman have leveled out the floor on one (1) of the upstairs bedrooms and installed new hardwood, baseboard and crown molding and trimed out the two (2) windows.  They will continue to finish the original work upstairs and I am sure Brent has few other items planned in the coming weeks.

The electrican has completed the install of all the undercabinet lighting and only has a few punch list tiems remaining.

We had the secruity alarm company stop in at Zelda and hook up the alarm system now that we have power.  It works good and has a loud horn.

Lynn has started the grouting on the kitchen backsplash and Brent has started tiling the upstairs hall bathtub.  He installed slate tile in the keeping room hearth on Wednesday night.

Friday is our last full day before heading to Maryland on Saturday.

2010 Begins At Zelda

Brent made it safely through the snow back to Gatlinburg after working all week at Zelda.  He has started laying the kitchen back splash tile in a brick pattern and laid about 250 pieces, with only 200 remaining.  Lynn will have alot of grouting to perform next week when she arrives next week at Zelda.

Brent did finish the area under the cabinets around the breakfast bar which is not shown.

Our trim contractor showed up at Zelda on Wednesday and worked on Thrusday and Friday.  It is a family business with a father daughter team.  They installed the crown molding in the dining room, keeping room, breakfast area, foyer, den, office and the bathroom.  Brent was told more than once that the walls were not straight but they did a great job and had many difficult angles to cut.  They only rooms remaining that need to  crown molding installed are the kitchen, pantry and laundry/mud room.  The carpenters also trimmed out the stairs on the ceiling in the foyer.

Our electrican worked a few evenings and only has a couple more under counter lights to intall in the kitchen.  Ray Jr and Sara came by the house to look at what materials are needed to finish the work upstairs and some new work.  They will be working upstairs at Zelda next week.

A New Year and Off to Maryland

Well we are back at Zelda late Sunday evening.  We had a really great time with all our family over the Christmas and New Years break and we are moving to Maryland at the middle of this month, so we must make hay while the sunshines with Zelda.  Lynn and the girls headed back to Gatlinburg on Tuesday so they could pay the spring tuition at UT on Wednesday.

Surprise! Surprise!  Our trim carpenter showed up at Zelda today.  He did install the crown molding in the two (2) front downstairs room and did a good job.  Brent has stayed at Zelda for the remaining of the week and will head back to Gatlinburg on Friday to pack.  He was able to put down some more marble pieces in the foyer and now only needs to put down the remaining three (3) rows next to the front door.  Hopefully the new front door will be installed this week and Brent can finish the foyer.
