Taking Off This Weekend

Well we decided not to go to Kings Mountain this weekend, after traveling over for four (4) straight weeks. We did happen to purchase some tile for the upstairs bathroom on our visit to the local Lowes in Sevierville, TN. We purchased marble tile for 50 cents a square foot and obtained some decorative boarder pieces for 25 cents a piece. The marble tile will go on the floor in the upstairs hall bathroom while the boarder pieces will go in all the bathrooms. If you haven't noticed, even when we are not at Zelda on a Saturday, it is not far from our minds.

We will travel over to Zelda next week and post pictures of the progress. Hope everyone is buckled down for the bad weather that is expected. Lynn's mom in Opelousas, LA and Brent's parents in Baton Rouge, LA have really experienced strong storm cells the past few nights with heavy rain during the day. We think some of that weather is hitting here as our temperature in Gatlinburg is expected to fall into the low 30's tonight from the low 60's today.

Painting and Tiling

Brent met Lynn, Jennifer, Jessica and Cookie at Zelda on Saturday to continue work. All the girls had been in Raleigh, NC to visit Greg at his apartment. Jennifer and Jessica were off the week from classes at UT due to spring break.

Well, Brent finished tiling the floor of the downstairs bathroom and was able to level and lay all the cement board for one of the upstair bathrooms. Lynn finished painting all the ceilings while Jennifer and Jessica put the final coat on all four upstair bedroom walls.

Also during the trip, our electrican met with Brent and will start the final phase of the electrical work. We will have to get the cabinet installer to return because the garbage disposal and dishwasher outlets were covered up when the dishwasher was relocated during the cabinet installation.

Brent is currently on the look out for solid wood flooring on sale. We will need about 1300 sf because we will tile the kitchen, laundry room, walk-in pantry and all the bathrooms. The original woodfloors upstairs will be salvaged by some repatr, sanding and staining.

Rainy Chilly Saturday

Well we drove the entire trip to Kings Mountain in the rain and were greeted with a temperature of 40 degrees F. It was too cold to paint or set tile, so Brent laid backerboard on the floor in the bathroom upstairs and Lynn removed the mortar between the tiles that Brent laid last weekend.

We did meet with our hvac contractor and the work turned out great. We now how a complete system with two (2) outside units.

HVAC Work Completed

Brent received a call from our new HVAC contractor who has finished installing the new units and finishing the work started from our previous contractor who stole our money.

We will be heading back again to Kings Mountain tomorrow, to walk down the work with the contractor. Lynn, Jennifer and Jessica will continue to paint the walls as Brent will finish tiling the downstairs bathroom. Once he finishes that, he will level out the upstairs bathroom floor using a self leveling compound. Cookie will do her usual of greeting visitors, exploring the house and sleeping.

We will publish pictures and progress made at Zelda during our day on Saturday.

Tiling Work Begins

Well, we travled once again from Tennessee back over to Kings Mountain, NC this weekend to work on Zelda. In the downstairs bathroom, Brent preped the the shower basin and installed cement board on the floor and began tiling. He finished the shower basin and about three-quarters of the bathroom floor. He was unable to finish, because we still need to intall the hvac vent and the final location will be determined by the location of the floor joists from craw space.

Brent also met with our new hvac person, who is pulling a new permit and wil be installing two (2) new ac units, new ducting upstairs, dryer vents and new some new ducting downstairs for vents. He is also going to inspect the existing ducting and make any required repairs.

Lynn continued painting and finished all the priming in the entire house. She also finished several more ceilings but ran out of paint to complete the job. Looks like we will need a few more gallons to complete the job. Lynn then started cleaning the upstairs.

We will attach pictures next week of the bathroom and updates on the house. Don't forget to vote for your favorite season in our poll. Funny but on Sunday back at the house in Gatlinburg, we received about six inches of snow and Cookie really loved it.
