Some Lights Have Been Hung

Brent drove to Kings Mountain from Gatlingburg and Lynn and the girls, including Cookie, from Raleigh. We are selling the house in Holly Springs, so Lynn and the girls were supervising the packing and loading. Also, a few wedding details are being wrapped up. Greg's wedding is now only one week away.

The electrican worked some this week and hung about half of our lights. The two period lights were installed in the downstairs foyer and look fantastic. Two of the bedrooms have the ceiling fans installed and the light over the kitchen sink has been installed.

I did not think this would happen, but our electrican actually made more headway during the past couple weeks than Ray.

No additional work was performed on the trimwork upstairs.

Brent did finish a few floor tile items in the master bath room and did set the first row of wall tile in the downstairs bathroom shower. Brent will continue with the shower on Thursday when he stops and works for the day prior to heading to Raliegh for the wedding. All of our family will be stopping back to see Zelda next Sunday on our way back to Gatlingburg.

We had some more excitement on the way back home this week. It appears the power stearing pump has gone out in the truck and we were lucky to be near a market in Cosby. Power stering fluid was all over the inside of the engine compartment and leaking on the parking lot. We will need to get the truck towed on Monday and brought to a garage.

Weekend Off From Zelda

We took this weekend off and stayed at home. We did go to Cades Cove on Saturday to hear the Knoxville Symphony play in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Smoky Mountains.

Brent did speak to our electrician who was hanging lights and is expecting to have power in the house next week. We are also down to less than two (2) weeks before Greg and Renee's wedding.

Well, we will head over to Zelda next week and we can hardly wait to see the progress that has been made. We will publish lots of pictures.

D-Day at Zelda

We traveled back over the mountain on Saturday, June 6th and arrived at Zelda on D-Day, to continue work and review progress being made. As promised, more pictures were taken and uploaded for everyone to see. We are still both enthused about the bead boarding in the upstairs hall and how it transitions from downstairs to upstairs. I have tried to show that transitions in the pictures. Also, the pull down stairs to the attic are installed such that the extension ladder must find a new use.

Lynn spent most of the day grouting the master bathroom floor while Jennifer and Jessica painted the doors. We did get the "egg" shaped door knobs but we decided to paint the doors before installing.

Ray installed the door on the bathroom downstairs and placed the vanity to inspect the clearance of the door and space while sitting on the toilet. Ray framed on the doorway and installed a 30 inch door instead of the planned 34 inch door. The door cleared the vanity and there was enough room while sitting on the toilet, but Brent decided to move the vanity to the master bathroom upstairs and then needed to purchase a matching one. We will install a period style pedestal sink in the downstairs bathroom. Brent spent his entire Saturday running from store to store trying to purchase the vanity, pedestal sink, a few lights and fan. He was able to get the vanity, at the third store, lights for the master bath closet and pantry and the final ceiling fan for the Murphy room. He was unable to find the pedestal sink so the hunt continues.

To our surprise, the electrician returned and did complete a lot of the electrical work. We have stacked and marked all the lights and fans to be installed and this should be accomplished this week. He still needs to wire the HVAC system and get the inspection. We are getting close.

Ray should finish what he can this week of the upstairs trim work. He is also going to raise the uneven floor in one of the bedrooms which was an addition back in the 1940's, such that when the wood flooring is installed, it will match the height of the hallway.

We did have some excitement going home last night as we witnessed a single car accident on highway 74 just west of Shelby. It appeared that the driver lost control of the vehicle and it went off the road , across the ditch and rolled twice before coming to rest on its side. Brent stopped and ran to the car while Lynn and Jessica contacted 911. The rescue units arrived within about 5 minutes and the lone passenger, although cut on the head, is expected to recover. Brent was glad that a nurse arrived quickly on the scene. The driver was unconscious at the beginning and being held in place by the seat belt. She is lucky that she was wearing the seat belt and not thrown from the car. It really makes you think how lucky we have been over the last few years and the amount of mileage we have driven with any type of incident.

We are taking next weekend off but work will continue. We will let everyone know the progress as Zelda is coming back to life. We are now down to less than 3 weeks before Greg's wedding. We did sell our house in Holly Springs, NC and the movers will begin packing next week. It is a very exciting time but with everything going on, there is a little stress from time to time.
